. Formation of Hybrid International

Two Telecom sector companies planned together to merge their expertise. For this purpose, they
merged & formed a new company named as“Hybrid International”. The new CEO Mr. Asif met the new
CFO Mr. Sameer of Hybrid after the merger. Teams were made under Mr. Asif & Mr. Sameer.
Mr. Asif & Team Member Ali:
After the merger, the first task Mr. Asif initiatedwas to make a list of company’s resources &
then to point out the scarce resources. He asked his team member Ali to do this task in a week.
Failing to report within the due date was claimed to be taken seriously which could bring
unpleasant circumstances for Ali on his job.
It was observed that Ali was unhappy to be pressurized as he made a statement of complain to
the Mr. Asif that he did not like to be bullied. After having a word with Ali, Mr. Asif made him
realized that he wasn’t just the leader of the teamhe was working in, but also the CEO of the
newly merged company.
Mr. Sameer & Team Member Sami:
Mr. Sameer got into action as well, as he got to have a team under him as well. He asked his
Team member Sami to bring him the deep analysis on the annual reports of both the previous
companies. He asked sami to have a sitting with himat any time as his experience was far more
deep & intense along with the intense knowledge he had in his field.
Sami admired, trusted and respected Mr. Sameer in front of the other staff because he had
great interpersonal skills & a creative way to handle tough situations. Sami idealized Mr.
Sameer so much that he could perform even the toughest task just for him.

After a Year in Hybrid International
A whole year passed but the merger sorted out to bea not so big success in the market. There
was seen a shortage of resources which brought low productivity. Employees’ promotional
opportunities were lower down to almost nil. There was an unclear performance evaluation
system. Such conditions gave birth to organizational politics in order to take corrective
measures by taking decisions.
Question Number 2:
2. Ali being an employee of Hybrid International, whatpossible response could he show to
the prevailing Organizational Politics & factors influencing it & why? 10(2×5)
Solution: The political behaviour of individuals in the organisation is influence by variety of factors. These factors can be broadly categorised into individual and organisational factors.
Individual Factors: There are individual factors where individuals play politics to satisfy their personal needs. These personal or individuals needs are like to gain power for control and to influence decision-making process of the organisation. The aim of such individuals is to increase the area of their influence. They try to sustain power as it helps to obtain personal needs and fulfill desires. In organistions, individuals play politics as they have great desire and high need of gaining power. Such types of individuals are basically internals and self monitored people. There are many individuals who play politics because of their expectation of quick success in life at any cost.
Organisational Factors: There are some of the organisational factors that influence the individuals to play politics in the organisations. These factors are as follows:-
1. Limited Resources in the organisation: – When there are limited resources in the organisation then every individual in the organisation wants to have optimum resources. It results in making individuals getting engaged themselves in politics to get the maximum advantage of the distribution of resources.
2. Interpretation of limited resources: – The interpretation of limited resources like position, power, promotion etc in the organisation makes individuals engage in the politics. The individual who craves for such resources feels that they may be deprived of such resources in the process of distribution of resources and so they play politics in the organisation.
. Uncertainty in decision-making:- There are some individuals who take advantage of the situation where there is uncertainty and ambiguity in decision-making because of unclear rules and policies.
. Performance evaluation: – The individuals tend to play politics in the organization when performance evaluation and its outcome are subjective, qualitative and unclear.
. High Performance pressure: – The individuals play politics when they are enforced with high performance pressure. The politics playing in the organization becomes measure to pressurize authority to withdraw control and lower the performance target.
6. Decision-making culture: – Democratic and participative decision-making culture of the organisation is also liable to organisational politics as every individual wants to enhance his/ her importance and thereafter give opinion on crucial and important matters.

. Affecting lower level persons: – The lower level persons get affected when they experience persons at higher level playing politics.
